Spine & Scoliosis
Certified McKenzie Mechanical Spine Care & Certified Schroth Scoliosis Care

Spine and scoliosis care at IPT brings together two certified, evidence-based methods under one roof. For mechanical back and neck pain — disc-related pain, sciatica, and the flare-ups that keep returning — we use the McKenzie Method, or Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT). For scoliosis and postural curves, we use the certified Schroth Method. Jenny Gores is Cert. MDT through the McKenzie Institute, and our Schroth-trained clinicians handle three-dimensional scoliosis care, so the same practice can assess your spine, name what is actually driving the problem, and match you to the right approach. We see both in private one-on-one sessions at our North Miami practice, our Aventura clinic, and our Wynwood clinic.
Helps with:
Back pain Neck pain Sciatica Disc issues Scoliosis Postural asymmetry Uneven shouldersThe two methods solve different problems. The McKenzie Method (MDT) is built for mechanical spine pain. Rather than guessing, we test — loading your spine in specific directions and watching where symptoms travel to reveal the direction your body prefers. When pain centralizes, pulling back toward the spine and away from the arm or leg, we have found your direction, and a short set of repeated movements done through the day becomes the treatment. Most people feel meaningful change within two or three visits, and just as importantly, learn exactly what to do the next time it flares.
The Schroth Method is built for scoliosis, a three-dimensional condition that a flat set of core exercises can only take so far. Schroth treats the curve in all three dimensions at once — rotated, side-bent, and compressed through the ribcage — with elongation to create space, rotational breathing to open the collapsed side of the ribcage, and muscular activation to hold the corrected shape. Every routine is built around your specific curve. We work with adolescents in bracing and with adults whose curve has started to ache, stiffen, or steal their breath.
Sessions are private and unhurried in both tracks, which matters as much for a self-conscious teen learning Schroth as for a professional who cannot spend three afternoons a week in a clinic. Where old fascial restriction is limiting either correction, we bring in hands-on myofascial release therapy first.
Individuals and families frequently combine their spine care with one of our structured therapy programs so the whole season of care is mapped out in advance. Clients south of the causeway often train at our Wynwood clinic instead.
Your Spine Care Path
Spine Assessment
We map how your spine moves and loads, screen for a scoliotic curve, and review any imaging — which tells us whether McKenzie mechanical care, Schroth scoliosis care, or both is the right path.
Building Your Corrections
You learn what your spine responds to: a McKenzie directional preference, a Schroth curve-specific routine, or a blend, with hands-on cueing and props.
Holding the Correction
Repetition and strength work teach the muscles to sustain the corrected position during sitting, standing, walking and sport.
Daily Life Carryover
We adapt the routine to desks, gym sessions, school and work chairs so progress keeps happening outside the clinic.
When Your Spine Needs Specialist Attention
- Pain travelling into the buttock, thigh, arm or hand
- Symptoms that worsen after sitting or driving
- A back that locks up during bending or lifting
- Recurring flare-ups every few months
- Sciatica-type pain below the knee
- One shoulder or shoulder blade sitting visibly higher
- A waistline or ribs that look uneven from behind
- A curve measured above twenty degrees or progressing between X-rays
- Adult curve pain that has begun limiting activity
MIAMI SPINE CARE
Spine Care Built for Miami Bodies and Schedules
Two realities shape our spine caseload. A large share is people who sit for a living — attorneys, traders, agents and founders across Brickell and downtown whose commute over the causeways adds another hour in a car seat. They rarely have the appetite for a twelve-week schedule, and McKenzie mechanical care respects that: because the method identifies a directional preference quickly, the burden shifts from clinic attendance to a routine you can run between meetings. The other reality is scoliosis. Certified Schroth providers are uncommon across Miami-Dade, so families regularly cross the county to reach us, and year-round single-sided sport — rowing, volleyball, dance and tennis — reinforces exactly the asymmetry we are trying to unwind. We build genuinely portable home programs for both, and Broward families often prefer our Aventura location for its easier parking and shorter drive.
